THE UKETONES

Uketones Ukulele Choir

The Uketones Ukulele Choir is a fun and engaging instrument-based choir for all ages and experience levels. The Uketones teach ukulele basics, from string names to chord structures to strumming patterns, by playing classic singalongs together. Our song repertoire is highly influenced by the interests of our members! We also touch on the percussive nature of the ukulele by adding percussion elements to our songs.

The choir began in 2018 and is under the direction of Alexis Hillyard. This group meets Saturdays from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church.

How to Join

We are always accepting new members to the Uketones Ukulele Choir. New members do not need to audition and there is no cost to the players to join.
Please bring your own ukulele to rehearsals or any instrument of your choice!

Ximena playing Ukulele

The Braille Tone Choir began 17 years ago as a small choir directed by Scott Leithead. None of us had any idea of the fun and music we were about to have. We began singing in unison. Our first song was Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven. As we got better singing together we had our first taste of three part Harmony in African music. We sang Siyahamba. Eventually we mastered harmony and then we tried scat solos in the song Blue Moon. We have dance parties for warm-ups. We joke around making musical puns. We love music! We love singing! We love a challenge.
