THE BRAILLE TONES

Braille Tone Choir for Adults

The Braille Tones have been in existence since 1996. Through the dedicated work of our conductor, accompanist, section leaders, and choristers, we perform up to six-part harmony in a variety of musical genres and languages.

The Braille Tone Choir is under the direction of Susan Farrell and accompanied by Vicky Berg. Our membership consists of adults with varying disabilities, musical training, and experience. It is a non-auditioned choir; except to determine what section would be most appropriate for a new singer. There is no cost to the singers in joining the choir. The Braille Tone Music Society of Canada and its many generous sponsors fund the choir completely.

The Braille Tones have four paid section leaders who come from various community choirs in Edmonton, including Korora, Oran, and Edmonton Youth Choir.

Rehearsals are currently held Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church. Our typical choir season runs from September to June.

The choir typically performs four to five times per year, including wind-ups, nursing home tours, and as a guest choir at Korora’s Encore concert each year.

How to Join

We are always accepting new members to the Braille Tone Choir and are currently looking for more music students as well!

Geoff, Choir Member singing with a smile on his face.

Being part of the choir is important to me because every Saturday morning, I get together with a great group of people and sing.

I enjoy learning new things and after every practice or performance, I go home in a positive mood because I’ve been doing something I enjoy doing. I enjoy my guitar lessons as well because it gives me the opportunity to learn new music, and eventually record what I have learned.
